What the heck is Aland and how do you pronounce it?

As a non-franchised, independent, and exclusively local brand, Aland Realty gets a lot of questions about how to correctly pronounce Aland, what the heck “Aland” is and what the A (with A circle above) means.  Our company is family owned, and family members’ heritage originates in a small archipelago called the Aland Islands off the coast of Sweden & Finland.  Aland is pronounced “Oh-lind,” with the small red circle (called an A ring) above the “A,” designating a long and darker pronunciation of “A.”  We welcome all pronunciations (and have heard some pretty entertaining ones over the years) but typically we say “Ah-lind.”
