Make the Most of Small Spaces: Backyard Edition

May 31, 2019 / Home, Renovation

As we move further into spring, it’s time to jazz up our yards, clean out the clutter and prep our outdoor spaces to enjoy all summer long. Even if you don’t have a lot of space to work with, there are plenty of creative ways to make the most of what you have.  Check out some of our favorite ideas below!

Create Multifunctional Spaces

Get inventive with how you use your space – create bench seating with underneath storage, add shelving to fences, or hang small buckets and hooks from lattice to use in various ways.

Get Pretty with a Pergola

Incorporating a pergola, even a small one, can add immediate charm to a once lackluster yard. Use it to add light shading to a small seating space, or to frame a garden. If you’re looking for storage, add some decorative lattice and use it as a spot to hide your lawn mower, hose, and other tools.

Divide it Into Areas

Use patio stones to designate a seating space separate from a play or garden space. Even if you don’t have much room, it can help keep things organized and look intentionally cozy with the right furniture and arrangement.

Use Container Plants

Instead of fussing over a garden bed when you’re already fighting for space, use pots and containers that can be easily rearranged, set on retaining walls, or even placed at the end of a bench!

Hide Ugly Fences with Greenery

If you have an old fence that would be too difficult to replace, hide it with tall plants, grasses, vines, and other greenery to turn it into part of your garden space.
