New Year’s Resolutions | For Your Home

December 31, 2018 / Home, Renovation, Selling

The start of a new year often symbolizes a refresh of your routine and a clean slate for the future. When considering our resolutions, it’s common to focus on how we can stop bad habits, learn new things or focus on self-improvement. This year, shift your focus to your home!

FINISH THAT PROJECT

Unpainted trim? Broken window blinds? Holes in the walls? Leaky faucet? Fix it – and FINISH it! We are all guilty of procrastinating small repairs around the house or leaving projects halfway done. Now is the time to check it off your to-do list.

MAKE TIME TO ORGANIZE

Even the most tidy homeowners have moments of weakness. We’re busy, and we rush, which often leads to clutter in places that are most convenient (e.g. your kitchen table). Consider what items you see misplaced the most, and brainstorm new ways to make storing those items more convenient and compatible with your routine.

SMALL UPDATES CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE

Replace old outlets and light switches for clean, modern fixtures. Swap out dingy and outdated ceiling lights for something more contemporary. Repaint doors to cover wear-and-tear marks. Change out your cabinet hardware. Freshen up your couch pillows. Easy, but effective!

CLEAN THE SPOTS YOU’VE OVERLOOKED

Windowsills, vents, fans, cabinets, the oven door or inside the freezer…the possibilities are endless(ly) satisfying.

. . .

Just take it one step at a time, and you’ll love how accomplished you feel after! If you’re planning on getting your home ready to sell, this is also a great time to work on decluttering and packing away personal items in preparation.
